Petrochemicals are traditionally manufactured using fossil fuels like oil or natural gas as the feedstock, which are finite resources with a high carbon footprint—and a high “methane footprint” (an extrememly potent GHG). Circular SynTech’s patented OneStep™ technology does not produce GHG’s when producing renewable “petrochemicals” (and does not use fossil fuels); our process actually prevents GHGs—particularly by avoiding the need for landfilling waste (which produces methane). In addition, every ton of renewable chemicals produced by CST replaces a ton of petrochemicals that would otherwise need to be manufactured from GHG-producing oil or natural gas.
One of the most critical products which CST’s OneStep™ technology can produce are renewable para-xylenes, which can be used to manufacture polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polyesters, a kind of plastic. Bottles made from PET plastic are widely used as containers for water, sodas, and other beverages because PET is lightweight, shatter-resistant and strong. By using renewable para-xylenes generated by CST to produce PET, the packaging industry can achieve its goal of using “smart” bottles made from renewable plastics.
In addition to para-xylenes, CST's OneStep™ technology can produce a variety of other renewable chemicals, including liquid aromatics and bio-reformate which are key "building blocks" for producing other chemicals and materials.
As well as producing renewable chemicals, CST’s OneStep™ technology can also be used to produce renewable diesel fuel, jet fuel, octane enhancers and crude “bioreformate” which can be further converted into a variety of chemical and energy products.
